DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
The Electrical and Electronics Engineering branch was started in the year 1993 with the aim of a role model department in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The department has highly qualified and dedicated faculty members in all major areas of the discipline and supported by trained technical non-teaching staff for practical training. The performance of our students in the University examination in the past years has been very good. The department has secured university first rank in the years 1998, 1999, 2000,2002, 2003, and 2004. A number of our alumni are occupying eminent positions in the country. National Board of Accreditation (NBA) AICTE, New Delhi, has accredited the B.E. program of the department. ISO 9001:2000 quality procedures and standards have been adopted by the department to improve the overall quality of the educational process. It is also accredited by Institution of Engineers (India).
The department has highly dedicated and qualified teaching faculty. The faculty are well-trained to offer guidance to students in specialized fields such as Power Systems, Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives, Control Systems, Electromagnetism, Bio Medical, Applied Electronics, VLSI design, Digital Signal Processing and Embedded Systems.
With the start of the M.E. in Applied Electronics during the academic year 2003-’04, the department has entered the panels of the new era of higher learning.
The department enjoys the privilege of having spacious and well-equipped laboratories that provide the students the industrial environment much needed for real life training.
The major well-equipped laboratories to offer advanced practical training in the field of Electrical Technology are:
- Electrical Machines Laboratory.
- Power Electronics Laboratory.
- Control System Laboratory.
- Electric Circuits Laboratory.
- Measurements and Instrumentation Laboratory.
- Electronic System Design Laboratory.
- Computer Simulation Laboratory.
The department offers problem-solving and technical consultancy services to various industries, educational institutions, construction companies etc. It is also involved in offering consultancy services to carry out major projects in electrical power and the design and fabrication of various electrical laboratory equipment. It has adequate number of experienced teaching / skilled faculty with rich exposure to industrial systems who can confidently take up such work.
The department has a design and fabrication division which produces the various equipment required for the electrical laboratory. It also offers Project Management, Project Solution & Technical Consultancy Services to industries.
With the aim of motivating the students for higher studies, the department conducts free coaching classes during evening hours for senior students in preparing for GATE/IES examinations. The department plays an important role in NICE campus to import technical education to the students.
Anna University, Chennai, has granted approval to run a Research Centre in the department. M.S. and Ph.D. research programmes are offered to aspring students in Noorul Islam University.
The institution of engineers students’ chapter (chapter no:E-629) was started on 29th August 2005 through this and the AEEE (Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) the dept offers various seminars, personality development programme, Quiz programmes & Enterpreneuship development programmes for the students to help them keep pace with the rapid changes in the field of Electrical & Technology.
This dept got various funded projects nearly 51 lakhs from AICTE, New Delhi under schemes such as EDC, MODROBS, IIPC etc.
LOCATION
The University is located in an eco-friendly environment at the foot hills of Velimalai of Western Ghats in Kanyakumari District, Tamilnadu. The landmark Kumaracoil is well known for its religious and historical importance. The nearest International Airport is at Trivandrum which is about 60 km from institution & the nearest railway station is Nagercoil Junction.
